Art is the only serious thing in the world. And the artist is the only person who is never serious.

— Oscar Wilde
  • Earth pigments and plant pigments in the second pic - a tiny selection of the colours I’ve achieved, and some gallotannic ink… nature gives us so much colour, idk why anyone would choose artificial colours! #worldpigmentday #worldpigmentday2023 #naruraldyes #thenaturaldyehouse
  • Determined to use every flower I’ve grown here this year! And to finish every piece already planned, before I leave my wonderful Mt Chincogan dyehouse for the next stunning location… busy af!

This raw silk is a favourite to print and the Raven top is one of my most popular styles. Another favourite is the pure silk satin slip dresses in maxi and mini, lush and versatile, the quality silks really suck up the plant pigments so beautifully, photos don’t show the colours or lustre very well.

I purchase undyed garments from established sustainable designers, like these two pieces from @thesilk.co, my favourite local designer for silks - the quality of the textiles and sewing is brilliant, Lon’s designs are timeless and look so good on diverse body types and styling choices.
Next on the table are more of my favourites:
linen pants from @jennyjazzdesigns and hemp kilts from @kashiaustralia
Byron Shire is so fortunate to have such brilliant designers on tap!

  • Packing my studio - I have options but I’m still seeking a perfect abode to rent for a bit… I know a few top legal practitioners that balance legal and art practice to feed both sides of their brains… I got this
  • ‘A moment in Place’ begins…
My first foray in NSW regional forests at risk collecting leaves and earth pigments for a body of work telling stories of eucalyptus and the importance of stopping logging in native forests.

From Bundjalung through to Yuin country, these bags of leaves represent just a few places that our State government is willing to sacrifice for votes from a greedy, and subsidised, forests products industry. More to come. A lot more!

Almost from the outset I realised this is not a short project!
The first two pieces of the map, from my camp dyehouse at Bournda, were made after a visit to fire grounds around Quaama and Cobargo. I don’t do much purist eco-printing but these pieces reflect my feelings at the time, despite the glorious surrounds of my camp. #stoploggingnativeforests #ecoprint #sustainabletextiles #naturaldyes #botanicalprint #thenaturaldyehouse
  • Bournda Camp dyehouse … nature and me making art is the simplest track to happiness 💜💜💜🌻🐾🔥#thenaturaldyehouse #ethicalsustainabletextiledesign #ecoprint #nswstateforest #stoploggingnativeforest #stoploggingoldgrowth
  • Yuin country - I so love the crisp air, dry heat, scent of eucalyptus… quietly thrilled to begin visiting forests at risk of logging and those already being decimated by the forest products industry. Tell your elected representatives to stop logging native forests. It’s not necessary for anything. Nothing needs our forests more than we need them to stay. #stoploggingnativeforest
